The other side of war (angels)
Today was the big day because at last I was going to fight my last battle and whatever the outcome would be really the last one because so much if I won or I lost my career would end in the honors or in the disgrace.
The stakes were high but we put all the assets on our side the defeat was not even an option.
.
We had everything planned and optimized the chances of victory because everything had been planned and planned and so we had waited patiently for our moment of glory and we had meticulously prepared all, we had incited terrorists to act throughout the Empire for in dispersing the armed forces, we had caused trouble among its neighboring allies to ask the help of the Empire, which sent them troops and fighting ships, we sabotaged the manufacture of the new vessels of its fleet and delayed the training of the recruits who were to pilot them.
So when we crossed the border with our gigantic war fleet all that the undefeated old witch of the Empire was its old, obsolete fleet, her stealthy flagship, a modern fleet but not yet equipped with its main guns and systems occultors or theirs shields completed and in addition he did not have any well-trained crew in reserve but only cadets at the beginning of training.
.
However the window was narrow because in a week her modern ships would be completed, her juniors would be trained enough to be killed in action and her scattered ships would have been recalled to protect his imperial palace but it would be too late for her.
We were going to slice the head of the Empire by decapitating that of the Imperial Gorgon, whose only name froze the blood of her bravest enemies. Finish the reign of the angel of death and her ridiculous Empire, which was roaring and growing too rapidly for the security of an empire like our Imperium.
But she was still a danger because we were not counting the odd times by unexpected means she had returned the situation to her advantage against enemies more powerful and too confident but we were even more powerful and especially suspicious so nothing had been left to chance or almost.
.
We had no information about her flagship because it had been built in her Black Fortress and could be small or gigantic or a collection of disparate ships?
We had driven toward her imperial palace for five days without real resistance, but there was a real battle against her old fleet.
The battle was fast and as expected we had won but I was perplexed because our victory was not as total as expected because many ships in our fleet had been badly damaged.
What we should have delayed and given her more time to organize the defense of her imperial palace. But it would not work because we were going to abandon these ships after recovering their crews, weapons, etc.
.
But it was odd that her ships could withstand so well our new weapon: the neutron torpedo that killed the crews and damaged the various systems of the ships. Of course these weapons were prohibited by an intergalactic convention because too cruel for the crews. But the Imperium was well above these trifles because nothing could prevent us from establishing our Supremacy over the entire Galaxy.
Now we are going to the next phase: we were sure that the battling Empress was lurking in the darkness of the cosmos, well hidden by her occultation shields in her flagship.
So we started looking for her in all directions but especially toward her Imperial Palace where she could find refuge. She could not move because our scanners were tuned to their maximum sensitivity to increase the chances of detecting any anomalies due to her movements.
.
To our surprise she has appeared in the opposite direction, towards our Imperium. Did she want us to believe that she was going to attack the Imperium with just one powerful ship? Or just trying to get away from her Imperial Palace to give her troops a chance to get organized?
But no luck because she was our real target because we knew very well that once captured or dead her empire would fall, after that the attack of her Palace would be only a formality to destabilize her Empire which would split into groups easy to conquer.
So we were cautiously approaching her flagship because we were dreading a shot from her and we kept our scanners fully uncovered to try to unravel the secrets of her seemingly huge ship, either one or two level down gigantic.
This was our first mistake because as soon as we were at an ideal distance to discover the secrets her flagship, it emitted a powerful impulse that grilled all the detectors of our scanners. It was the worst time to be blind and as soon as possible we replaced them with those of reserve and we had to even use those which served to protect our backs.
But it does not matter because the enemy to shoot down was in front of us and we were cautious so we were kept at a safe distance and sent all our smaller combat units in reconnaissance and to test her defenses.
The result came quickly because as soon as they were close enough to attack she launched a series of powerful countermeasures that scrambled their detectors, navigation and sighting systems.
.
A bubble was formed in which the signals were strong enough to make it impossible to observe what was going on except for a long series of explosions.
As the ship continued to move away soon emerged from this bubble of non-detection the debris from our disemboweled ships, she had laid a trap for them and we had fallen like flies.
Others would rush to avenge them but not us because we had to analyze the situation before rushing into a panic attack that was to be what she expected.
After consultation we decided to bomb it from afar with our neutron torpedoes to weaken its defenses and neutralize its transmitters of interference. So we prepared to launch long bursts of these torpedoes but then we made a second mistake because she fought back with powerful neutron cannons that exploded our torpedoes closer and closer to us and before we could stop these shots in quick sequences it blew our torpedoes even before they left the launch tubes and we were the victims of these explosions of deadly neutrons.
.
So the most slutty warrior dared to use the weapons she had banned, BRAVO this was worthy of the greatest of our enemies but insufficient to defeat us. As a precaution we ejected all the torpedoes we had left in the opposite direction and out of reach.
But our progress did not stop because our soldiers would fight to the death even if the radiation would cause it in days or weeks but then her Empire would be destroyed.
Our soldiers were like undead but they were mostly zombies still able to fight to the end and she was going to pay for each of their deaths.
For even with weakened crews our ships remained formidable adversaries, our ghost ships could still slaughter her and defeat her Empire.
.
So we sent our ships of the dying crews to the assault of her mobile fortress but at the same time her fleet of ships under construction took us backwards. Cadet idiots would not last long before our well prepared soldiers.
Our fleet of zombies were going to attack her flagship but during that time the rest of tour fleet was turning because if the flanks of our ships were sensitive to the attacks of the new imperial ships it was less worse than the situation if we did not turn around because our backs were our weak point.
.
But even though we quickly returned the Empire had just caused us a lot of damage. It was impossible because the new Imperial battleships did not have guns installed strong enough to do it. And yet it was not their secondary weapons that could do so much damage.
Now that my bigger units were facing them the answer was obvious: for compensating for new guns not ready they had urgently installed the giant guns defending the Imperial Palace against attacks. It was almost good news because if we won this battle, their Palace would be defenseless.
.
Before we completed our reversal maneuver, they launched a light fighter attack on us, a ridiculous strategy because they did not have weapons that could damage our Krakens, our biggest combat ships.
Another mistake on my part but I came to make them so much that I stopped counting or even noticing them. Because they launched on us the neutron torpedoes that we had abandoned and that we hoped to recover after the battle and as they did not have compatible launch tubes so they had used their fighters as ballistic thrusters to return them to us.
These fighters directed them towards us, dropped them after the activated them and from their contact with our ships they exploded whereas the fighters who had carried them had left to avoid the radiations of their explosions.
Now that we were facing the enemy ships and we understood how they had done to finish them so fast: their active armor covered only their front but neither their flanks nor their rear.
If they had managed to surprise us it was just that our attention was fixed on their accursed empress and that our back scanners had been dismounted.
New strategy: face these new battleships and charge to force them to turn to flee and expose their poorly protected flanks. But lighter and more maneuverable than our ships instead of turning they were backing but not as fast as we went but almost.
.
It was impossible for recruits to maneuver so well, I thought and I understood why: their obsolete ships that we had faced were without organic crews, they had automated them, filled them with mechanic-robots to repair the systems as and when as they were damaged and reprogrammed as combat robots to replace normal crews.
In addition it had ventilated any atmosphere of these ships because without air inside, our weapons did not find gas to turn into a destructive plasma in these ships which made them less sensitive to our attacks and as robots are more resistant to the neutrons that the soldiers it was normal that they could resist so much to our attacks.
.
Worse that meant we were fighting hardened crews in new ships. So I also understood that the two parts of our fleets were separating a bit too much, we had lost contact with the zombie fleet because of the jamming generated by her flagship and I launched a squadron of cruisers to relay with the zombie fleet .
Then I recognized another mistake because the zombie fleet was in danger because her flagship attacked them by launching a multitude of combat drones that aggravated the damage already inflicted.
.
So the separation of our fleet in two was my final mistake because at the speed we lost our ships, even if we won the battle we would be too weak to win the war so our only chance was to regroup the two parts of our fleet and to finish with our enemies. I started the reassembly order but it was too late the distance was too big and the gathering would arrive too late.
To give a little chance to my fleets to assemble, I attacked the new Imperial vessels with my flagship, and that is how Grand Admiral Doumass of the seventy-second fleet of the Imperium perished.
………………………………………………………………………
I was only the unfortunate commodore Lladamuls when the terrible news struck me: the grand admiral was dead, and I, the simple squadron commodore, was the highest ranking officer still alive in the fleet. Worse, I was turning to decide how to continue the battle.
My situation was not very pleasant because my fleet was practically destroyed, I did not know what to do and I had absorbed enough radiation to die in a short time as a good majority of the troops under my command.
So I made the decision to surrender as well as offer the surrender of the survivors of the fleet. The enemy seemed to be expecting this choice because he had stopped shooting at us but had positioned them-self to be able to deal the fatal blow instantly if we resisted.
.
Some refused to surrender and committed suicide or blew up the wreckage that was their last refuge, but I went to negotiate our surrender. I was brought in front of the monster that had defeated us and contrary to what I thought she was not a fire-breathing dragon but she was an old slender woman leaning on her scepter which also acted as cane.
I had to bow before her and surrender my weapons but the shame of being defeated by such a weak creature made me make the worst mistake of my life: I ran over her to kill her but she gracefully avoided my assault and her Cane was also an electric baton powerful enough to paralyze my limbs as it touched. Quickly I was defeated and paralyzed at her feet, imploring mentally that she ends me.
.
But then she preferred to torment me and told me that I deserved an exemplary punishment before hitting me again with her baton which made me lose consciousness.
When I woke up it was horror, I had heard of a torture of the Empire where an enemy was immersed in an alternative reality where all his fears became reality. So my personal hell was to be totally cured of radiation and even diseases that I had never treated for fear of being considered a weak, moreover the care of the Empire had also saved more than 90% of our soldiers prisoners of this death.
To add to my torment we were told that we would have returned to the Imperium as part of a peace agreement with the Empire. It was the worst decay that could be suffered by one of our soldiers.
.
And when I tried to convince myself that it was just a virtual nightmare to break or punish me, I was given irrefutable proof that it was a lot worse because for the rest of my life it would be the only one and the only reality, and before I went to the Imperium with all my companions in misfortune, we were longed for a long life of suffering, which was true because the Imperium could not execute us and had to prevent us from committing suicide or dying as long as the cursed peace agreement is in force.
My life was long and full of suffering until the day I realized that my worst torturer was myself but at least I knew it would end well.
But that’s another story that ends well because finally in the end I die.
